While it has some of the best anime titles like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Pokémon, it’s a treasure trove of underrated anime series that are all too often overlooked. So if you consider yourself an otaku, add these great anime to your watchlist.

Case Closed
Case Closed, sometimes known as Detective Conan, is an adaptation of the serialized manga series by Gosho Aoyama. The story centers on Jimmy Kudo, a 17-year-old prodigy detective who is forced to take an experimental drug that turns him into a seven-year-old boy.
Jimmy is pursued by the crime syndicate that forced him to take the drug, but takes on the alias Konan Edogawa to hide his true identity. He enrolls at a local elementary school and forms a junior detective club with his classmates, making a name for himself and trying to find a way to get back to his old life.
Case Closed is a fun anime that’s great for all ages, but it’s a great choice for anime fans who want to watch something fun with younger kids.
Made in Abyss
Made in the Abyss is an anime that has a narrow niche but an incredibly intriguing plot and premise; however, it is not for children. The city of Orth is surrounded by a huge hole called the Abyss. In this hole lie ancient artifacts of incredible power, remnants of a past civilization, and great dangers.
Anyone who enters the Abyss suffers from the Curse of the Abyss, a disease that strikes them as they emerge from the hole. Riko is an orphan girl whose mother, Lisa, was one of the few who reached the deepest levels of the Abyss and returned, earning her the rare title of White Whistle. However, her mother decided to descend into the Abyss once more and never returned.
After some time, a message is discovered from Lisa that she is waiting for Riko in the deepest levels of the Abyss. Riko sets out to find her mother with the help of her friends, but says goodbye to everything she’s ever known, realizing that she might not survive the journey.
Made in the Abyss is part action anime, part horror anime. It focuses heavily on the main characters’ friendships and the horrors they face in the deeper levels of the Abyss, as well as what the characters must endure in order to survive.
Toradora
What should you do when your lover likes someone else? Team up with their best friend to help them fall in love with you, of course! “Toradora” is a piece from the life of an anime that tells about Taiga Aisaka and Ryuuji Takasu, two high school students who cannot stand each other, but unite to help each other meet their lovers.
As the story continues and their plans fail again and again, the two discover that they have much more in common than they think and help each other overcome their personal demons. Toradora is a touching, heartwarming experience from start to finish, with a balance of humor, drama and romance that leaves a lot to be desired.
Magic Knight Rayearth
If you’re a fan of magical girl anime, Magic Knight Rayearth is something you don’t want to miss. Originally released in 1995, it’s full of nostalgia, with the classic anime art style that many grew up with. It combines the sorceress and mecha genres together in a fun fantasy world romp.
Three girls from Earth are drawn to a world different from the real world they knew. There they have power and magic. It’s not always fun and rosy – there are real stakes in this series, and it’s full of dark moments of self-sacrifice and difficult choices, though they’re viewed through the idealism of the three 14-year-old protagonists. .

This anime revolves around a young man named Tatara Fujita – your run-of-the-mill anime character who has no purpose or dream in life. Great Teacher Onizuka, or TRP as he is also called, is a character development story. Eikichi changes and grows throughout the series from a complete criminal to someone anyone would love to have as a teacher. His lessons are not usually taken from a textbook, but are firmly rooted in the life he led. Eikichi wants to become the greatest teacher in history, and in many ways he succeeds.
