How To Sync Browser Bookmarks & Data in Firefox & Opera

October 7, 2020 by feecalculator_x6rbod

People no longer access the Internet from one browser or device. Most switch between devices in everyday life. Each browser has its own set of bookmarks If you create or delete a bookmark in one browser, the change will not show up in the others you are using.

This will work fine if you use the same browser on all of your devices. However, most people don’t. Firefox and Opera users, for example, want to view their favorite sites in multiple browsers and therefore want to be able to sync bookmarks across browsers across systems.

How To Sync Browser Bookmarks & Data in Firefox & Opera

You can manually import or export bookmarks between browsers. However, this is time consuming, inefficient and requires constant updating. This article will describe several solutions to sync bookmarks and data on Windows when using Firefox and Opera.

Some browsers, including Firefox and Opera, have built-in options so you don’t need any third-party software or extensions to sync data and settings across all your devices.

How to set up Firefox Sync

If you don’t have a Firefox account yet, sign up. Then open Firefox on your computer. Then click on the hamburger menu button in the upper right corner> Options.

To sync your bookmarks and data, you can:

    • Combine local bookmarks with these online bookmarks.
    • Download local bookmarks to replace online versions.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

1. Add Bookmarks the Easy Way

You can bookmark a page in Firefox in several ways. Use any of the following methods that are most convenient for you.

2. See All of Your Bookmarks

A lot can be done in the library containing your bookmarks. You can not only see all your bookmarks in one place, but also sort, edit, search, tag, transfer bookmarks, etc.

Select Bookmarks from the menu and choose Manage Bookmarks. The library will open in a pop-up window.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

On the left, you’ll see all the bookmarks, which you can expand to see the bookmark toolbar, bookmark menu, and any folders you create.

Select an item in the left sidebar and you’ll see a list of its bookmarks on the right.

3. Sort or Search the Bookmarks Library

To make it easier to find bookmarks in categories, you can sort or search the library.

Select Views (three rows on Mac) and use the Show Columns options to select the columns you want to see in the library.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

You can then sort the bookmarks using the same Views button on the toolbar. Choose a sort option from the pop-up menu. Also, you can select a column heading to sort by that particular column.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

If you want to search for a specific bookmark, enter a keyword in the Search Bookmarks box at the top of the library.

4. Organize Firefox Bookmarks Using Folders

You can add folders and subfolders to keep related bookmarks together for quick access. For example, you might have folders for news, timers, games, or recipes.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

You can then select a folder as the location when adding a new bookmark or dragging an existing site to the Bookmarks folder in the library.

When you open the Library window, you can arrange your bookmarks by changing their order. This will help you find the ones you use the most by putting them at the top of the list and the ones you rarely use at the bottom.

To reorder bookmarks, select and drag one of them up or down to a new position. In the same way, you can change the order of the folders on the left sidebar or in the list on the right.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

Select a location in the Library sidebar, and then select the bookmark on the right. You will see the Name field. Replace the existing text with the name you prefer.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

8. Use Tags to Categorize Bookmarks

Similar to flagging or labeling emails, you can bookmark bookmarks to categorize them. This is useful if you don’t want to create a folder for related bookmarks, or if you want to apply the same tag to bookmarks that are in different folders.

As an example, let’s say you have folders for Google Apps and Microsoft Apps. You can apply the spreadsheet tag to Google Sheets in the first folder and Excel in the second. You can then view both bookmarks in your list using the tag.

Apply the tag when you first bookmark the page by typing it in the Tags field or by selecting an existing tag from the drop-down list.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

In addition, you can apply a tag to a bookmark in a library. Select the bookmark on the right, and then enter a tag in the Tags field or select it from the drop-down menu.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

To use a tag, type it into the address bar and view the results below, or select the Tags category from the left sidebar in the library.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

To remove a tag from the library, right-click it and select “Delete”.

9. Include Keywords for Fast Access

An alternative to using tags in Firefox is to use keywords. You can enter them as tags when adding a bookmark or in a library. Just enter a keyword or phrase in the Keywords field.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

To use a keyword, enter it in the address bar. You should then see results for the bookmarks you have using that keyword.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

10. Remove Unused Bookmarks

How many bookmarks have you added that you only used once or twice, or even for a short period of time? Soon you will have more bookmarks than you use, rendering this feature useless.

You can easily delete bookmarks that you no longer need. Select a location on the left to display bookmarks on the right. Right-click the bookmark and select Delete Bookmark.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

If you want to delete the entire folder and its contents, right-click and select “Delete Folder” from the left sidebar or the list on the right.

Firefox Managing Bookmarks Tips

I hope these tips help you manage your bookmarks in Firefox. To learn more, check out how to sync bookmarks in Firefox and Opera.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

May 7, 2022 by feecalculator_x6rbod

Mac : Update Your Web Browser.

Your web browsers are your internet access points. It is important to download any available updates, not only to access any new features, but also for security updates that keep your browser from becoming a victim of malware.

Keeping your web browser up to date on macOS and Apple devices is just as important as it is on Windows, even if the risk of viruses is relatively low. Internet security is important regardless of your operating system.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

How to Update Your Web Browser on Mac

No matter which browser you prefer, you need to know how to update it to the latest version.

How to update Chrome on Mac

Google Chrome makes it easy to update the browser whenever an update is available.

Open Google Chrome.Look at the top right corner of the browser next to the three dots. If an update is available, it will say “Update”. Select these points.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

From the menu that appears, select Restart to update Chrome.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

A pop-up window will appear warning you to close Chrome. Select Restart.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

Chrome will shut down for a few seconds while the update is being applied, but will reopen with the same tabs and windows you had previously open.

How to update Safari on Mac

The Safari browser is a little different from other web browsers. In addition to being the default browser for macOS, the latest version of Safari is always linked to the latest macOS updates.

Select the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and choose System Preferences. If an update is available, it will appear in the Software Update window. Select “Restart Now” to install the update, which will take five to 15 minutes on average, but sometimes longer.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

After restarting your Mac with the latest version of macOS installed, you will also have the latest version of Safari.

Because Safari updates are closely tied to the Mac operating system, it’s important to apply system updates as they become available.

How to update Firefox on Mac

Firefox is one of the most popular open source browsers. Here’s how to keep it up to date.

Open Firefox.Choose Firefox > About Firefox.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

The window that opens will list the current version and automatically search for updates. If any updates are available, the About window will automatically download them. Select Restart to refresh Firefox to apply the update.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

You may need to completely close and restart Firefox before the update is fully applied.

How to update Microsoft Edge on Mac

Microsoft Edge may be a new name for Internet Explorer, but it’s also been redesigned and improved over its much-mocked predecessor. Although it is a Microsoft program, it works just as well on Mac as it does on Windows.

Open Microsoft Edge.Select Microsoft Edge in the top left corner and select About Microsoft Edge.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

On the right, under the heading “About”, the browser will automatically search for available updates.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

By default, Microsoft Edge is automatically updated. However, it can detect if you are using a metered connection (such as cellular data). In such cases, you may need to manually refresh your browser as it stops all automatic updates to save data.

How to update Opera on Mac

Opera is a privacy-focused browser — a fact that draws in a lot of users at a time when cybersecurity is more important than ever before — but those features weaken if you don’t update it properly.

Open Opera.Select Opera > Update and Restore.Under the Update heading, select Check for Updates. It will display the last time it checked for available updates. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it.

Mac : Update Your Web Browser

Why Updating Is Different on Mac

On a Windows computer, you download an executable file, which then opens a browser. While you can perform the same operation on a Mac (even though it’s a package file, not an executable), some applications can be downloaded from the App Store. You need to update apps differently if you download them from the App Store and not from the web. Fortunately, this does not apply to any of the browsers listed above.

All of these browsers (with the exception of Safari, which is built into macOS) must be downloaded directly from the web. You apply browser updates from the browsers themselves, not from the App Store.

There is another issue to consider: compatibility. Mac users often find that their Windows versions of apps are at least several versions behind their Windows equivalent.

Many browsers have an option to turn on automatic updates. Turn it on if possible; it prevents you from missing anything important and means you have to do one less thing to keep your web browsing safe.

Reset Any Browser to Factory Defaults in 2022

May 1, 2022 by feecalculator_x6rbod

Reset Any Browser to Factory Defaults in 2022.

If your web browser has a serious problem that you cannot fix, you can reset it to factory settings. Luckily, most major browsers have a dedicated reset button that makes the process quick and easy.

Read ; Test Your Browser’s Security 2022

Read on to find out what you need to do to reset popular desktop browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari to their default settings.

Reset Any Browser to Factory Defaults in 2022

Reset Google Chrome to Factory Defaults

If Google Chrome crashes, freezes, or is unresponsive, or if you suspect a browser hijacker is at work (for example, the search engine changes automatically or you see constant pop-up alerts), consider resetting your browser to factory defaults. Resetting Chrome:

undoes changes to the start page, home page, new tab page, and search engine. Removes all pinned tabs. Disables all active extensions and add-ons. Removes temporary site data (cookies and caches). Revokes all site settings and permissions.

Resetting the Google Chrome browser will not delete your bookmarks, browsing history, and saved passwords. However, we recommend that you upload any personal data to your Google account so that you have a backup in case the procedure does not go according to plan.

1. Open the Chrome menu (select the three dots in the upper right corner of the browser window) and select “Settings”.

2. Select More > Reset & Cleanup (PC) or Factory Reset (Mac) from the Chrome Settings page sidebar.

Reset Mozilla Firefox to Factory Defaults

As with Chrome, resetting Mozilla Firefox will remove all browser settings and cache while keeping personal data such as passwords and bookmarks. Again, it’s best to sync your personal data with your Firefox account so you don’t leave anything to chance.

1. Open the Firefox menu (highlight the three lines in the right corner of the address bar) and select Help.

Reset Microsoft Edge to Factory Defaults

Microsoft Edge, the default Chromium-based browser for Windows 10 and 11, can be reset to factory defaults by going to the settings page. You can save your bookmarks and passwords, but it’s always a good idea to sync your data to your Microsoft account in case something goes wrong. The same applies to the download version of Microsoft Edge for macOS.

1. Open the Edge menu (select the three dots in the upper right corner of the window) and select Settings.

Clear cache and cookies

1. Choose Safari > Clear History from the menu bar.

2. Select More settings > Reset settings from the sidebar.

A Fresh Start

After restoring your browser to factory default settings, you will have to start over by logging into websites, reactivating extensions, and reconfiguring site preferences and other settings. This should give clues to any underlying causes of previous problems.

For example, a rogue extension could be causing your default search engine page to change. If re-enabling it results in the same issue, you should remove it from your web browser. Or use an anti-malware utility to get rid of it forcibly.

Remove Site From Never Saved List

Is the problem limited to a specific site or group of sites? Most likely, you have not previously memorized passwords for these sites. Google Chrome

1. Open the Chrome menu and select Preferences.

2. Select AutoComplete> Passwords.

3. Scroll down until you reach the “Never Saved” section. Then remove any sites that you do not want to be listed by clicking the X next to each entry.

Clear Your Browsing Data

If your browser still won’t prompt you to save passwords (or if nothing happens when you try to remember them), try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache. This usually resolves problems caused by stale browsing data.

Google Chrome

1. Open the Chrome menu and select “Preferences”.

2. Select “Privacy & Security” from the sidebar.

Disable Your Browser Extensions

Extensions can create conflicts, so make sure turning them off restores your browser’s ability to remember passwords. You can then isolate problematic extensions by reactivating them one at a time. Here’s how to access your browser’s extension manager.

Google Chrome

Click the Extensions icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select Manage Extensions. Or open the Chrome menu, point to More Tools, and select Extensions.

Mozilla Firefox

Open the Firefox menu and select Add-ons and Themes. Then select “Extensions” from the sidebar.

Microsoft Edge

Click the Extensions icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select Manage Extensions. Or open the Edge menu and select Extensions.

Apple Safari

From the menu bar, choose Safari> Preferences and click the Extensions tab.

Try Saving Passwords Manually

If your browser still cannot remember passwords for a specific site or group of sites, you can try to manually save your login information. Unfortunately, this is only possible in Firefox and Safari.

Mozilla Firefox

1. Open the Firefox menu and select Passwords.

2. Click the Create New Login button in the lower left corner of the window.

3. Complete the fields and select Save. Repeat these steps for any other credentials that you want your browser to remember.
