Fix Google Maps not talking or giving directions.

Google Maps should give voice guidance when you start navigating to a place. Voice navigation is very useful if you need to keep your eyes on the road while driving or cycling. Google Maps voice navigation is stable and almost always works.

However, a slow internet connection, incorrect navigation settings, and temporary system glitches can ruin functionality. This guide covers 12 fixes to try if Google Maps is not talking or giving voice guidance on your device.

Fix Google Maps not talking or giving directions

1. Download Voice Directions

Do you hear a beep instead of voice guidance when using Google Maps? This is because Google Maps didn’t load the voice guidance or the voice guidance is out of date.

Google Maps requires a reliable internet connection to download voice directions. If this is your first time using Google Maps, make sure you have cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection on your phone. Keep Google Maps open and wait a few minutes for the app to automatically load voice guidance in the background.

You should start hearing voice guidance when Google Maps has finished loading. If the problem persists, try the troubleshooting steps below.

2. Increase Your Device’s Volume

You won’t hear Google Maps voice navigation if your device’s volume is low or muted. Press the volume up button on your phone to increase the voice navigation volume. If your phone is connected to your car speaker, use your car’s volume control to turn up the Google Maps volume.

3. Unmute or Enable Voice Navigation

Google Maps allows you to turn off traffic alerts, turn-by-turn directions, and other traffic updates while navigating. You can quickly turn on alerts in the navigation interface.

When Google Maps starts navigating to your destination, tap the speaker icon in the top right corner. Select “Unmute” (normal speaker icon) in the far right corner to have Google Maps play all navigation alerts.

Here’s what the three Google Maps volume settings mean:

Mute Alerts: This is the crossed-out speaker icon (), which disables all navigation and alert sounds.Only hear alerts: The speaker icon with an exclamation mark (). This setting disables turn-by-turn direction alerts.Mute: The regular speaker icon () turns on all alerts and navigation sounds.

You can also change the behavior of Google Maps navigation alerts in the app’s audio and voice navigation settings.

12. Update Your Phone

Our research has shown that Google Maps has stopped speaking for many iPhone users after updating to iOS 13. There are some bugs in the operating system version that drown out voice prompts in the middle of navigation. Luckily, subsequent updates came with bug fixes that solved the problem.

If you haven’t updated your phone for a long time, go to its settings menu and install any available update.

Connect your iPhone or iPad to the Internet, go to Settings > General > Software Update, then click Download and Install.

To update your Android device, go to Settings > System > Advanced > Software Update > Check for Updates.

Use “Google Maps Go”

Google Maps Go is a “lite” or simplified version of Google’s navigation app designed for Android phones with limited storage. You will need to install a companion app (Navigations for Google Maps Go) to use turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps Go. Both apps are faster than the standard Google Maps app.

Google Maps Go is not available for Apple devices. Submit feedback to Google Maps Support if none of the recommendations in this guide restore voice navigation. Or try these alternatives to Google Maps until you solve the problem.

What is Location History in Google Maps?

January 2, 2022 by feecalculator_x6rbod

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It. What is Location History in Google Maps?.

The My Activities page on Google has a particularly useful area; the history of your location. This is useful because, if activated, it tracks every place you’ve visited since you first started using your Google account on mobile.

Read:How to set your own routes in Google Maps

If you’ve been using Android for years, this is an impressive database that can really come in handy. In this article, you will learn more about how to manage your location history on Google and how to use the information it tracks.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

Ensure Your Google Maps Location History Is Active

Before you can use location history, make sure it’s actually turned on.

1. Visit Google My Activities and sign in to your Google account.

2. From the main page, select “Location History” in the right pane.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

3. Make sure the Location History radio button is turned on on the Location Controls page.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

Later, when you visit places with an Android phone, the phone will report your location to Google’s servers. These locations, as well as the time and date of your visit, will be collected.

While this does cause privacy concerns for some users, keep in mind that you are the only person who will ever have access to this information. You will always need to sign in to your Google account to access it.

However, if you are one of those people who are seriously concerned about Google accessing your information, you may want to reconsider enabling Location History. However, if you choose to disable it, you will not be able to use any of the ways to use it described below.

1. Be Reminded of Places You’ve Visited

To start viewing your location history, select Activity Controls on the Activity Controls page.

In the upper left corner, you will see a map with a timeline. With this timeline, you can search for as many years as you had an Android device with your Google account.

If you remember visiting a place, such as a theme park or favorite restaurant, but only remember the approximate timelines you visited, this timeline control might help.

Start with the Year drop-down list and select the year you remember.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

This will create a list of the trips you have taken during that year. You can even use the “Month” and “Day” drop-downs to better guide the time frame of your visit. Or just pick a day from the list of vertical blue bars if you know exactly what day you visited the place.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

After you use any of the above methods to determine and select a travel day, you will see a complete travel schedule.

This will include all the places you have stayed at during your trip. You will also see the entire route as a blue line on the map.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

Scroll down the timeline until you find the place you want to remember. This could be a restaurant, a park, a hiking trail, or any other place that you really enjoy.

What is Location History in Google Maps?

The individual location marker on the timeline will give you the name of that location as well as the time on the day you arrived.

Once you find a place you want to remember, click on the three dots to the right and select Place Details to view your business or location data on Google.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

Note. If you notice that Google has never logged a place you recently visited that you want to remember, you can add it to your trip details. To do this, simply select the three points to the right of the closest place you have visited and select the Add stop option. Keep in mind that this is only available if one of the areas you stayed in had multiple places or businesses to visit.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

The timeline controls and your timeline history are the perfect way to go back to past trips you’ve taken. This is a great option to plan another trip to the area and visit the same places that you have visited and that you loved so much the first time.

2. Quickly Access Very Recent Trips

If you’ve recently taken a trip, you don’t even need to use the timeline controls. At the bottom of the Location Activity window, you will see the last trip you took a trip on, and a More Trips link below it to see more of your recent trips.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

When you select this, the bottom line will default to the current year. You will see a list of fields for each trip, as well as a range of trip dates.

You can select any of these trips to view the details of the trip.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

On the trip details page, you will see a list of each day of the trip in the bottom row below the map. You can select any of them to view the details of the trip for that day.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

This is really useful if you have just started a trip and need to contact any of the businesses you have visited to ask for a receipt or otherwise follow up. It’s also a fun way to share your trip with your family and remember all the fun things you did together.

3. See All Most Recent Places You’ve Been

There’s also a quick way to access not only the most recent places, but all the places you’ve sorted from most recent to oldest.

You can access this list by selecting the red box on the left of the bottom row, where you can see the total number of locations in your timeline.

If you choose this option, you will first see a list of the places you have recently visited. Use the scroll bar at the bottom to move to the right and scroll through these locations.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

If you continue scrolling to the right, you’ll see a section titled All the Places You’ve Been. This is a list that goes back a lot. The further you scroll to the right, the further the trip list returns.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

This bottom scrollbar list is perfect if you’ve been traveling in the last year or two and want to save time instead of using a timeline control box. With a quick scroll, you can easily find the trip you took to Yellowstone National Park a couple of years ago.

4. Set Up Location Highlight Emails

There is a feature in the Google Maps Location History settings that allows you to receive regular email updates. These updates will arrive in your inbox in the form of notes about your recent trips and the places you have visited.

If you want to keep this kind of overview on your email account, you can easily customize these email highlights.

In the location history window, click the gear icon at the bottom of the map. Select Timeline Settings from the pop-up menu.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

A window with several options will open.

Google Photos. Any photos you take during your trip and saved to Google Photos will appear in your timeline whenever you view that trip timeline. Timeline emails: Each time your timeline is updated with a new trip, you will receive an email listing the highlights of that trip.

The timeline emails option is also a great way to be reminded of any new content that has been automatically updated in your timeline. That way, if there is something about that trip that you don’t really want to log, you can go in and delete the individual stops you made.

5. Using Saved Places

You will also notice an option in the settings pop-up menu to manage your personal spaces. You will be taken to the Google Maps window where you can manage all your saved locations.

This includes all map lists you create, places you have assigned shortcuts to, and maps that you have saved or downloaded.

The Visited tab displays a short list of the places you have visited recently. These are the same locations listed in your Google Location History.

Google Maps Location History: 5 Useful Things You Can Do With It

This is a great place to view your most recent timeline entries from Google Maps. It’s also a quick way to access your location’s timeline from Google Maps without having to remember the link to your My Activities page.

Google Maps Location History Is Useful

Many people are concerned about the privacy implications of allowing Google to store every location you’ve ever visited with your mobile device. However, if you use a strong password for your Google account and two-factor authentication, you really don’t have to worry about anything.

Location history on Google Maps is a great way to remember information from past trips. It will be easier for you to visit the wonderful places you loved and keep records of your trips so you can travel down memory lane whenever you want.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

November 17, 2020 by feecalculator_x6rbod

How to set your own routes in Google Maps.

Spontaneous road trips can be fun, but sometimes you want to be more strategic and have itineraries ready in advance. Having your custom itineraries already mapped out for you in Google Maps is convenient: it takes the stress of missing a big turn and gives you the opportunity to share your travel plans with others.

You don’t need to use a car GPS navigator or any additional software. Google Maps lets you add different points, shapes, and directions to your routes. Here’s how to create your own routes on Google Maps.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

How to Create Custom Routes in Google Maps

While Google Maps allows you to create your own route, it has several limitations. For example, you can’t start from scratch, which means you’ll have to use the default landscape orientation. You can then customize it by adding other elements, including new locations, routes, and shapes. You will also have to use Google Maps on your desktop to create maps. To create your first custom map, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Google Maps website in a browser on your desktop and sign in to your Google account.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

  1. Open the menu in the upper left corner of the screen.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

  1. Select your seats from the drop-down menu.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

  1. Under Your Places, select Maps> Create Map.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

  1. A new Google Maps window will open with your personalized map.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

  1. Select “Untitled Map” in the upper left corner of the screen to change the name and description of the new map. Select Save to confirm.

How to Customize Your Google Map

After you choose a title for your new map, you can start customizing it by adding your own routes and elements to it, including layers, markers, shapes, and directions. To start customizing your map, make sure you are in the Map Editor window with a new map open.

Map layers

Your personalized map is layered. The bottom layer is the Basemap. You can always customize the look of your map by changing the basemap layer.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

To select a different map view, select Basemap at the bottom of the menu. Then select the desired view: map, satellite or terrain.

When you create a new custom map, an unnamed layer is added to it by default. You can create an entire map using just one layer, or add additional layers as needed. The multi-layered map allows you to separate different routes and destinations for later access. This way, you can schedule multiple road trips or walking routes on the same custom map.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

To add a new layer to your map, select “Add Layer” at the top of the menu.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

You can remove layers from your map at any time. To remove a layer, select the three vertical dots next to it to open a menu. Then select Delete This Layer. It is also possible to rename this layer and show step-by-step instructions in the same menu.

Markers

A map marker is a pin that appears on your map and marks a specific location or landmark. Markers are useful when you need to share the exact location of a place with other users, or when you need to add comments or additional notes to a location.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

To add a marker to your map, find the address or landmark you want to pin. Then select Add Marker from the toolbar below the search bar. In the pop-up window, enter a description of your map marker: name and description. It is also possible to add an image or video to the marker to make it more visible on the map. When you’re done, click Save to confirm.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

You can always go back and edit the marker after you add it to the map. You can change its name, description, style, and show routes on your map.

Lines and shapes

Another element you can add to your map is a line or shape. If you need to highlight a particular route or area on the map, you can make it more visible by drawing a line or shape around it.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

To add a line or shape to a custom map, choose Draw Line from the toolbar below the search bar.

Then you can edit this shape after placing it on the map. You can change its name, description, style, add an image or video to it. It is also possible to remove it from the map.

Route

For many users, the main purpose of creating a custom map is to share it with other users on Google Maps. You can add routes from point A to point B to display them as a separate layer on your custom map.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

To add routes to your map, select Add Routes from the toolbar below the search bar.

You will see a new route layer in the menu on the left side of the screen. First, choose a method of transportation: by car, by bike or on foot. Then add a starting point in text box A and a destination in text box B. This will display your routes on the map.

How to Share Your Custom Map

When you finish creating custom routes in Google Maps and add items to the map, they will automatically be saved to your Google Maps account under Your Places. To access your new map, go to Google Maps> Your Places> Maps.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

By default, you are the only one who can view this map until you share it with other people. To share your map, from the Your Places menu, select View All Your Maps. You will be taken to the Google My Maps site. You will see your map in the Own section.

How to set your own routes in Google Maps

To share your card with another person, select Share Card. You will see options where you can share your map via Facebook, Twitter, email, and embed it on your website. Choose your preferred method to share your map with others.

Save Your Custom Routes in Google Maps for Later Use

You can keep all your routes, directions and markers on the map in one place thanks to the custom maps feature in Google Maps. The next time you decide to go on a trip with friends or take a walk in the city, you can open the map and follow the path that you have explored in advance.

If you later want to see the places you have visited and plot a new route around them, you can view them in your location history on Google Maps.

Do you save your routes and locations to Google Maps? Which Google Maps feature do you find most useful for creating your own maps? Share your experience with creating custom routes on Google Maps in the comments section below.

View Your Google Maps Search History

October 6, 2020 by feecalculator_x6rbod

I recently discovered something interesting in Google Maps that I never knew existed. A few weeks ago I was looking for a local restaurant that a friend told me about, and now that I had some free time to go there, I couldn’t remember the name of the place! Since I didn’t google it, it didn’t show up in my google web search history, which I checked in the first place.

So, I went to Google Maps and tried to figure out how to view the search history on my map. There was nothing obvious on the main Google Maps home page, so I clicked on it for about 10 minutes until I found it. In this article, I’ll quickly show you how to view your Google Maps search history, which can be handy for seeing what routes you’ve searched for and what places you’ve looked for.

First go to Google Maps and click the “My Places” button. Make sure you are signed in to your Google account.

This will download all the custom maps you created as well as the entire search history of your maps. It is so simple! It’s not very difficult to get to it, but I definitely didn’t notice it before. It would be nice if they saved their search history under a different title, as My Places is more like a place to search for my custom maps, not my search history.

Just tap on any of the story items and it will show routes or location on a map.

So this is our simple tip of the day. Of course, for your story to be displayed at all, you must be logged into your Google account when using Google Maps. Otherwise, you won’t see any previous search history. Enjoy!

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

November 22, 2020 by feecalculator_x6rbod

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020.

While there is no shortage of Android running apps, not all of them are the same. Some apps are better suited for competing with your Facebook friends, while others have the experience of tracking your individual runs. However, if you are planning to run 10 km (or even a marathon), you will need a training app. Top advertisements

These training apps provide you with a monthly running schedule, weekly run goals, and audio navigation. After trying out a bunch of workout apps, below is my list of the best 10K Android running apps to get you ready for the race of your life. Let’s start.

Top 10 thousand Android running apps

Most Android phones have some kind of fitness app built-in by hardware manufacturers. Samsung comes with the Samsung Health app, Mi phones have the Mi Fit app, and stock Android devices have Google Fit. While these apps can track for you, they do not create a workout program for you.

1. Contestants

The most annoying thing about popular fitness apps is third-party trackers. After a while, you will start seeing ads on Instagram and Amazon. The only solution is the open-source ForRunners app that can help you get ready for your first/next 10K.

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

However, runners don’t have a workout plan built in that you can use the ones available on sites like Cool Running, VeryWellFit, and RunnersWorld. These websites create a general outline based on your level of expertise. You can choose the Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Competitive plan based on the number of miles you run per week. For example, here’s an 8-week 10K running workout plan created by Redditor Arve with cross-training exercises included.

Features:

  • Open Source
  • No login required.
  • Allows you to connect third-party Bluetooth trackers such as heart rate sensors, fitness bracelets, etc.
  • Customizable tones for heart rate, distance, and time.
  • Export training data in “.gpx” format.

What is missing?

  • No internal training plans.
  • Random crashes while navigating the interface

Download ForRunners: Android

2. From 5 to 10 thousand

In case you are actively running and have already raced 5 km earlier, 5 to 10 km is one of the best 10 km Android running apps to start with. Doesn’t require login or data entry. You open the app and it has a 9-week workout plan. I liked the fact that the workouts are based on running intervals, not distance. This has been a key problem for me and most of the long-distance runners. You should run by time, not distance.

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

The 9-week workout plan is pretty general and cannot be changed. However, it does include pace running, recovery running, and speed training. Good enough for newbies and good enough for resellers. The races are accompanied by an audio guide with some cool characters in the app that make the whole race fun.

Features:

  • 9-week varied workout plan with pace, speed, interval, and recovery runs.
  • Jogging with audio guide and cues.
  • Built-in standalone music player
  • Events section to notify runners of upcoming races and competitions.

What’s wrong?

  • The entire workout schedule cannot be changed.
  • Unable to connect third-party trackers or sensors.

Download 5K to 10K: Android | iOS

3. CCNB to 5K and 10K

Couch to 5K & 10K is a minimal 5K and 10K training and running app that requires no login or registration. The 10K Run is a 9-week workout plan with 3 workouts per week. The workout consists of interval runs with short recovery periods. You also have longer runs to the last part of your workout. I found the plan to be suitable for intermediate users. The app also has offline music playback controls, but it’s not integrated and requires you to skip the running tracker screen.

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

As with the 5K to 10K app, there is no way to change the training days of your workouts. However, you can skip past workout plans if you miss some of them. The best approach to running 10K apps.

Features:

  • A minimal application that doesn’t require any characters.
  • Built-in music controls.
  • The workout consists of intervals and long-distance running.
  • Options for creating an offline backup of your workouts

What’s wrong?

  • Doesn’t send workout schedule notifications.
  • Unable to change training schedule days.

Download Couch for 5K and 10K: Android

4. Huawei Health App

Huawei Health is Huawei’s fitness app for smartphones. Unlike a 5K to 10K app, it requires a login. You will also need to enter your previous run times and the expected dates of the races you want to prepare for. In addition, you must enter the number of workouts per week, rest days, and race date. In the end, the app will prepare a detailed plan for you based on your race date. Fully customizable.

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

huawei health app with training and tracking plan in operation

Huawei Health is the app I used to prepare for my 5K run. The application contains a rather rich and varied training schedule. Therefore, it may not be suitable for beginners. What’s more, the schedule is non-configurable, and the running tracker is also minimal, with no music player controls or tones set.

Features:

  • Clean, minimalistic interface without ads.
  • Workout notifications.
  • Customizable plan based on race date.
  • A good mix of interval and cardio endurance training.
  • Basic, intermediate interval runs separately from training plans.

What’s wrong?

  • Unable to change the training schedule or compensate for missed runs.
  • No alarm and music controls

Download Huawei Health App: Android | iOS

5. Decathlon coach

I’ve always been a frequent customer at Decathlon and was amazed to discover the Decathlon Coach app. It’s free and mostly supported by the community. I found a dozen 10K workout plans, all of which were created by international trainer and trainer Kalenji. I went through a couple of programs and was surprised to see that interval, tempo and recovery runs became part of them. If you want to contribute to your plan, the app also has the option to add and customize.

9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

Decathlon Coach has a modern interface, but since it is not a dedicated application for the job, the interface is rather confusing. You need to jump over many obstacles to get to the training page.

Features:

  • Free training plans for races with different time frames.
  • The ability to create your own training plan.
  • Individual cardio programs.
  • Connect Heart rate monitors to link heart rate data.
  • Automatic pause and audio prompt while running.

What is missing?

6. 10KB

10K is another fitness app from the popular Zen Labs Fitness, which also created the C25k app. The 10K app has a static 14 week 3-day workout program. This is more than enough for a beginner or just a beginner. The training program is varied, with interval training and speedrunning. The running tracker also works on the lock screen and is quite informative. The only downside is that the free option doesn’t measure distance and calories burned. For some, measuring distance can be a huge relief, but I usually train on time.

The 10K running app also has a paid option starting at $ 5 per week. It includes distance and calorie measurement with online songs selected by the team.

7. Nike + Run Club

Nike + Run Club is a reliable 10K running app for anyone new to running and even intermediate runners. I’ve used it all the way from 5K to 10K. The workout program is the most diverse of the other apps on this list. It can be fully customized based on user input such as race date, number of runs per week, rest days, etc. The app measures your workouts halfway through and adjusts accordingly. You can also change the running schedule for the current week according to the weekly schedule.

The Nike + Running Club app has local music management built-in, while some guided launches have Spotify playlists. Plus, you also get in-app audio-guided jogging and audiobooks if you want to run on the weekend. My favorite feature is that you can compensate for missed runs on other days and the app will take that into account. This really comes in handy if you have a full-time job and find it difficult to stick to your schedule.

Features:

    • Workout reminders.
    • Guided workouts and customizable audio prompt.
    • Local Music Player
    • Dark Mode

    • Lack of distance in the free version of the application.
    • The training plan is not customizable.

    8. Runtastic

Recently acquired by Adidas, Runtastic is one of the most popular 10K launcher apps on Android and iOS platforms. Runtastic comes with a hyperactive community of runners who catalog their runs and routes using GPS and maps. A voice trainer will help you motivate, but that’s not all.

    9 Best 10K Running Apps for 2020

There is a live support feature where your friends will be notified when you are running or preparing for a 10K marathon and they can cheer you up. Personal goals can be set based on distance, time, and frequency. You can set a time frame to achieve these goals and share the results with the wider community as needed. Join a group or create one, you will never be alone on your journey again.

Some of the biggest names in the sports industry are part of Runtastic. This applies to coaches and athletes. Follow them to learn from them. There is a free plan, but I would recommend the $ 9.99 subscription if you are serious about that 10K and overall health.

    9. 10K Running

10K Running claims to be recommended by fitness trainers and doctors. They say that you can go from 0 to 5 thousand in 8 weeks and from 5 to 10 thousand in the next 6 weeks. A bold statement, but the reviews and ratings were sky-high, so I went ahead and gave it a try. It teaches you how to gain momentum by alternating between walking and running and doing interval training. The segments will then improve over time. There is a voice instructor, but you can listen to music instead.

Works both on the treadmill and outdoors. The app comes with a very active community of runners, so you never feel alone. It has a very open policy, which means you can integrate it with other popular apps like Nike and Adidas. The premium subscription starts at $ 2.99 and is totally worth it.

Bottom Line: 10,000 Best Running Apps

Work more on your running shape, stride, and cadence while you train 10K. The average runner has a cadence of 160-180. You can watch this video for some helpful advice on your running form. What’s more, diet is very important if you are running long distances because it helps speed up your recovery and improve muscle strength. Include more complex carbohydrates, proteins with little probiotics like cottage cheese.
