How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad.

Your iPhone and iPad have all sorts of features for calls, text messages, email, games, apps, and everything else you do on your device. However, Magnifier might be the best feature that you overlook.

From reading fine print to threading a needle, this handy built-in magnification tool lets you magnify everything you need. Magnifier also gives you the ability to customize the view, apply a filter, and save photos of what you’re magnifying.

When your reading glasses are in another room or your physical magnifying glass is lost, don’t forget to use the Magnifier on your iPhone and iPad.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Access the Magnifier

You can open Magnifier in several ways: using the accessibility shortcut or from the Control Center. Here’s how to make sure it’s set up for everyone.

Use the accessibility shortcut

If you want to quickly open Magnifier by triple-clicking the side button or the Home button (depending on your device), follow these steps to turn it on.

Open the Settings app and select Accessibility. Go to the last section “General” and select “Ease of Access Quick Access”. Select Magnifier to check the box next to it.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

When you triple-click the button, the Magnifier app will immediately open. If more than one element is set for the accessibility shortcut, you will see a pop-up window where you can select the one you want.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Use Control Center

Another handy place for magnifying glass is in your Control Center. This allows you to open the tool with a simple swipe and tap.

Open the Settings app and select Control Center. Go to the More Controls section and tap the plus sign next to Magnifier. When it’s added to the top “Included Controls” section, drag it to the desired location in the list.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Then just open the Control Center and tap the magnifying glass icon to open it.

Use the Magnifier to Zoom In

When you’re ready to use the magnifier, open it in one of the places described above. The tool uses your device’s camera to capture the object you are viewing.

Use the Zoom slider, click the plus and minus buttons, or pinch your fingers on the screen to zoom in or out on an object.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Adjust the Brightness

To lighten the screen, tap the Brightness icon. Then drag the slider or use the plus and minus signs to increase or decrease the brightness.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Change the Contrast

Along with adjusting the brightness, you can change the contrast. Tap the Contrast icon and use the slider or the plus and minus signs to increase the contrast for a clearer image, or decrease to reduce the contrast.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Apply a Filter

If you have problems with color vision, applying a filter can help. Tap the Filter icon and swipe right to view options. Even if your color vision is fine, using filters can make some things better.

You can choose from shades of grey, red on black, yellow on black, yellow on blue, white on blue, inverted, inverted greyscale, black on red, black on yellow, blue on yellow, and blue on white.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

When you hit the right filter, your screen is immediately updated. You can also choose which color filters to display, which we’ll describe in the “Customizing Magnifier Controls” section below.

Lock the Focus

When you move your device, you will notice that it tries to focus and focus again on the object you are viewing. While this is useful, it can also be difficult to enlarge exactly the part you want.

To lock focus on the magnified object, tap the focus lock icon. Then when you move your device the focus will stay. Tap the icon again to unlock focus.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Switch the Front and Rear Camera

The subject you want to enlarge may be easier to capture if you switch cameras. Tap the camera icon to switch between front and rear cameras.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Add More Light

Increasing screen brightness isn’t always the best way to add light. Tap the flashlight icon to use your device’s built-in flashlight. This gives you more light on the subject itself.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Customize the Controls for the Magnifier

You can remove each of the controls described above from the Magnifier screen while using it. You can also reorder and put the ones you use the most at the top. In addition, you can choose which filters to display if you wish.

Tap the gear icon to open the control customization screen. You will then see the following sections:

Basic Controls: These appear at the top of the control window on Magnifier. Additional controls. They appear directly below the main controls. Other controls: These are controls that you don’t want to use, but will remain available if you want to add them later.

To remove a control, tap the minus sign on the left and select Remove on the right.

To add a control, tap the plus sign on the left.

To reposition controls, drag the three lines from the right up or down to position the control where you want it. You can shuffle them between the Basic and Advanced Controls sections, or within each section.

To change the filters displayed for the magnifier, click Filters under More Controls. Click to check the box next to the filter you want to display. This allows you to show only those filters that are useful to you.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Freeze the Frame

If you get to a point on the item you want to freeze and save, tap the Freeze icon. This feature can also help you make a magnified image of something when you can’t directly look at the screen. For example, perhaps you are trying to photograph a sometimes too small label on the inside of a computer or a splinter on the back of your hand.

You will then see an image of the frame you have frozen. To freeze additional frames, tap the rectangle icon, move your device or object, and then tap the freeze icon again, which will appear as a plus sign.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

Tap View next to the rectangle icon to view the images you’ve captured. These screenshots are not saved in the Photos app by default. If you want to save or share them, tap the share icon in the top right corner. Then choose an option like “Save image” or share it in messages.

How to Use the Magnifier on iPhone and iPad

When you’re done viewing your images, click End in the top left corner.

Detect People Around You

If you have an iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, or iPhone 13 Pro Max, you can also use the Magnifier to detect people near you. This will help you maintain a safe social distance.

Tap the People icon to enable this feature. Move your iPhone so that your camera captures the people around you. Your device notifies you with sounds and speech to those around you. When you’re done, click End to return to Magnifier.

To learn more about people detection, contact Apple Support.

The camera on your iPhone or iPad is obviously useful for taking photos or videos. However, it’s also a great way to magnify objects, so keep the handy Loupe tool in mind!

Live text on Mac, iPad and iPhone.

With the release of iOS 15, iPadOS 15.1, and macOS Monterey, there’s a new feature to make images more useful. This feature is called “Live Text” and allows you to interact with the text on your photos.

Here’s how to use the Live Text feature.

Live text on Mac, iPad and iPhone

What Is Live Text?

Whether you have a photo saved in the Photos app, an open mobile device camera, or a photo in an app like Notes or Reminders, you can interact with text. This includes the photos you take with the Camera app and the screenshots you take.

With Live Text, you can highlight text in an image and then copy and paste it, translate it, or find it. Even better, if the text is a phone number, you can call it, if it’s a date, you can create a calendar event, if it’s an address, you can see it in Maps, and more.

Let’s take a look at a few ways to use this useful feature on your devices and get the most out of it.

Live Text Requirements

Make sure you have one of the following in order to use Live Text.

iPhone XS, iPhone XR or later with iOS 15 or later iPad Pro 12.9 inches. 3rd generation, iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Air 3rd generation, iPad 8th generation, iPad Mini 5th generation or later with iPadOS 15.1 or later macOS Monterey in supported region < /str>

If you have one or two devices that suit you, enable Live Text.

On iPhone and iPad, open Settings, select General, and select Language & Region. Turn on the toggle for live text.

On iPhone and iPad, use the Live Text button, or press and hold a date or time. Select “Create an event” or “Create a reminder”.

If you take a photo of the label for the package you are shipping, you can track it with Live Text.

On iPhone and iPad, use the Live Text button or press and hold the tracking number. Then select Track Delivery.

Live text on Mac, iPad and iPhone

On a Mac, click the arrow in the dotted frame with the tracking number and select Track Shipping.

Live text on Mac, iPad and iPhone

In the pop-up window, you will see information about the carrier to track your package.

View an Address in Maps

Another awesome feature of Live Text is addresses. With a little effort, you can open an address on an image right in the Apple Maps app. From there, get detailed information about the location or directions.

On iPhone and iPad, tap the Live Text button, then tap an address to open it in the Maps app. Or press and hold an address to open a smaller version of Maps.

Live text on Mac, iPad and iPhone

On a Mac, you’ll see the address inside a dotted box with an arrow. Use the arrow to select “Show address” and it will open right in a tiny version of the Maps app.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

June 6, 2022 by feecalculator_x6rbod

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?.

Apple Keychain is the built-in password management system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It not only lets you save and auto-fill passwords for websites, apps, and wireless networks, but also lets you sync login credentials between Apple devices via iCloud.

However, you may also have heard of alternative password managers such as 1Password and LastPass. Are they better or should you stick with Apple Keychain? Let’s find out.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

Integration

Apple Keychain is fully integrated with your iPhone, iPad and Mac. Nothing to set up. You can save and autofill passwords right out of the box. Years of improvements and refinements also keep the entire Apple ecosystem running extremely smoothly.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

On the other hand, third-party password managers like 1Password and LastPass require you to download the appropriate apps, install browser extensions, create master passwords, etc. This can be overwhelming, which is why Apple Keychain wins in terms of convenience.

Availability

Unless you’re outside of the Apple ecosystem, then you probably shouldn’t even consider using anything other than the Apple Keychain. Activate iCloud Keychain and you can sync passwords across as many Apple devices.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

Outside of the Apple Keychain ecosystem, there is limited support for passwords on PC via iCloud for Windows. So if you also spend time on alternative platforms like Android and Windows, it makes sense to invest in a third party password manager.

1Password and Lastpass are fully available on all major operating systems, which means you can save, sync, and autofill passwords on any of your devices.

Security

If you turn on iCloud Keychain, Apple will protect your passwords with standard AES encryption and two-factor authentication. It also suggests strong passwords and alerts you to weak and compromised credentials by cross checking them for known data breaches.

1Password and LastPass also provide the same security, but you can use additional features such as hardware security keys (YubiKey and Titan) and one-time passwords.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

Locally, Keychain secures your passwords with a device passcode (iPhone and iPad) or user account password (Mac), which can be a problem in shared device scenarios. For example, anyone who knows your iPhone’s passcode can also see your passwords.

Instead, 1Password and LastPass use a separate “master password” to prevent unauthorized access, with the ability to use biometrics – Face ID or Touch ID – so as not to enter it yourself.

Pricing

Apple Keychain is completely free and allows you to save and sync your passwords across as many Apple devices. However, both 1Password and LastPass require you to pay for a recurring annual subscription, which costs $35.88 and $35.99, respectively.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

LastPass comes with a free tier that limits you to one type of device (computer or mobile), while 1Password provides a 14-day trial during which you can try out all the features. But in terms of price, it’s simply impossible to beat Apple’s offering.

Management

Apple Keychain is not the best option for password management. While Safari on Mac offers a well-organized website viewer and password manager, the all-encompassing Keychain Access app (which stores items like Wi-Fi passwords and secure notes) can be confusing if you don’t know how it works.

In addition, Keychain Access on iPhone and iPad provides only basic password management, requiring you to use your Mac to do anything remotely complex like viewing Wi-Fi passwords or deleting “Never Saved” entries.

In contrast, 1Password and LastPass have completely simplified password management, making it easy to manage your login information and other sensitive data (such as credit card and bank account information) on any device. You can even use a web browser if you want, something Apple Keychain is sorely lacking.

Is Apple Keychain The best password manager?

Both password managers also have many additional features. For example, LastPass’ emergency access feature lets you share passwords with trusted family members and friends, while 1Password’s travel mode lets you control what forms of data you want to have on your device when you travel.

It Depends on What You Want

If you don’t spend a lot of time working with non-Apple devices, it’s best to stick with Apple Keychain due to its full integration with the Apple ecosystem. It’s also free. But if you like the greater accessibility, added security, and superior password management capabilities of 1Password and LastPass, check out our comparison of both password managers to find out which works best for you.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app.

Looks can be deceiving, and Apple Notes is a perfect example of this. While the standard note-taking app for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS looks overly simplistic, it’s filled with all sorts of features that make it extremely versatile.

If you’re relatively new to the Notes app, here are 21 tips to get you started using Apple Notes effectively on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

1. Pin Notes

If you have a note in a folder that you want to quickly jump to, try pinning it to the top of the list. To do this, swipe the note to the right and tap the pin icon. On a Mac, Control-click a note and choose Pin Note instead. You can pin as many notes as you like this way.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

Want to unpin a note? Just swipe right again (or Control-click the note on a Mac) and choose Unpin or Unpin Note.

2. Switch to Gallery View

The default list view of Apple Notes makes it difficult to distinguish between notes. If you prefer a more visual approach, consider switching to gallery view.

On iPhone and iPad, tap the More icon (three dots) in the top right corner of the screen and select View as Gallery. On the macOS version of Notes, select the Gallery icon at the top of the application window.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

3. Add Password Protection

When composing a secret or confidential note, it’s a good idea to add an extra layer of protection by blocking it. To do this, tap the “More” icon and select “Block”. On a Mac, select the padlock icon in the upper-right corner of the Notes window instead.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

The first time you do this, you must set a password, which you must use to unlock the note and any other notes you later lock. You can also unlock notes with Face ID or Touch ID to speed up the process.

4. Use Quick Notes

If you’re using an iPad or Mac with iPadOS 15 or macOS Monterey installed, you can use the Quick Note feature to quickly take notes without opening Notes. It can also grab links to web pages in browsers like Safari and Chrome.

To activate Quick Note, simply swipe your finger (or the tip of your Apple Pencil) over the bottom right corner of your iPad screen. On a Mac, click the cursor in the lower right corner of the screen instead.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

Anything you write down this way will appear in the Quick Notes folder of the Notes app. You can also access this folder on your iPhone.

5. Store Notes Offline

By default, the Notes app stores notes in iCloud, which means they’re easily synced across iPhone, iPad, and Mac via your Apple ID. However, if you’re running out of iCloud storage, you also have the option to store notes locally.

On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings > Notes and turn on the toggle next to On my iPhone/iPad account. On the macOS version of Notes, select Notes > Preferences from the menu bar and check the box next to Enable the My Mac account.

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

You’ll then find a new section labeled “On my iPhone/iPad/Mac” on the home screen or sidebar of the Notes app. You can create folders and notes in it in the future.

6. Create Checklist

While your iPhone, iPad, and Mac come with a dedicated Reminders app, you can also use the Notes app as a replacement for your to-do manager. To create a quick checklist, simply tap the Checklist button at the top of the on-screen keyboard (iPhone and iPad) or at the top of the Notes window (Mac).

21 tips and tricks to better organize your Notes app

7. Use Text Formatting

The Apple Notes app isn’t just for simple note-taking. You can also structure your text with headings, bold text, bullets, and more. Simply tap the Aa button at the top of the on-screen keyboard (iPhone and iPad) or at the top of the Notes window (Mac) to access formatting options .
