Looking for a way to play 3GP or 3G2 files on your computer? If so, there are several ways to do this. First of all, 3GP files are usually movies taken from a mobile phone. Probably a really old mobile phone.
If you want to play them on your computer, you can either install a codec or download third party software to play these files. In this article, I will try to mention all the ways to play 3GP and 3G2 files.
First method – install the video codec
First, if you want to play 3GP files in Windows Media Player, you need to install one of the following two programs:
- FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder
- Haali Media Separator
However, during installation, you also need to select a specific configuration for it to work correctly.
For FFDShow, you need to make sure AMR is on on the audio decoder screen and H263 (+) is on on the video decoder screen.
For Haali Media Splitter program just make sure Enable MP4 support is checked.
The second method – converting the file
The second way to play these videos is to simply convert them. This might be the best way for you to be able to play these videos on any computer or stream them to devices like Xbox etc.
Please note that if you need to convert from 3GP to AVI, you can use the same sites, just select AVI as the target format for conversion.
Method 3 – Use a different media player
Finally, you can simply download another media player that can play 3GP files by default without having to install codecs or convert files.
VLC media player
You can play 3GP files with VLC Media Player, which is an excellent media player with codecs for almost all types of video and audio formats.
Another media player that supports 3GP files is RealPlayer It also supports a wide variety of other formats, making it a good alternative to Winamp and Windows Media Player.
