Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote? Here Are Your Options.

“It’s probably under the couch,” is the common answer you’ll get if you ever lose ANY remote, including your Fire TV Stick. If you’ve searched everywhere and still can’t find your lost Firestick, don’t worry, not all hope is lost. There are a few more ways to help you use your Fire TV Stick even without a physical remote. I’ve compiled a list of all the possible situations in which you can use the Fire TV Stick even after losing your FireStick. Let’s start.

Must Read: 13 best Fire TV Stick and Firestick apps

Understand the problem

The Fire TV Stick works with a Wi-Fi connection, and when you first set up the device, you use the remote to navigate the interface and save the WiFi credentials to the device. However, when you lose the remote, the Fire TV Stick will still turn on and connect to Wi-Fi. But due to the lack of a remote control, nothing can be done.

This situation gets worse if you move out of range of your default Wi-Fi, which can happen if you take the FireStick anywhere and forget the remote at home or lose it. I tried to solve this problem and listed 5 ways to use the FireStick if you’ve ever lost your Fire TV Stick remote.

FireStick Navigation and Control Methods

1. When the Firestick remote inside the house is lost

For those who don’t know, you can use your smartphone to navigate and control the FireStick. If you are on the same network that your Firestick is connected to, you can simply log into the app and start using your phone as a fully functional remote control.

First, install the Fire TV app from the Play Store or App Store. After installing the app, launch it from the app drawer. Now, if you are on the same network, your Firestick should automatically appear in the app, even without the need to login. After you hit the Fire TV Stick on your phone, it will prompt you for a 4-digit PIN. in the application.

The code will be displayed on the TV screen. Enter the code to connect the remote Fire TV app to the FireStick.

Now that everything is set up, your application will look something like the image below. This is a digital remote for the FireStick, and you can slide your finger across an empty area to simulate arrow keys and press to select. You can go to settings, use Alexa, enter URLs using the built-in keyboard, and more using the remote app.

The app is a worthy alternative to the traditional remote control, and you can use it when you can’t find your remote or you are too lazy to get up and grab it.

2. When you lose Firestick away from home

Pairing a smartphone app with the Fire TV Stick was easy because it was connected to your home Wi-Fi. However, if you are away from home and forget the remote, you have to work hard to get it working.

You will need one smartphone that will act as a remote control for the Firestick, and we will need another device that can create a Wi-Fi hotspot. Unfortunately, the iPhone hotspot name cannot be changed, so I suggest you use a Mac, Windows, or Android smartphone with a working internet connection.

As before, install the Fire TV app on your smartphone, sign in with your Amazon credentials, and store them aside. The next part is essential for the whole process to work. We’re going to create a Wi-Fi hotspot with the same credentials as your home Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi name and password are case sensitive, so create an access point with this in mind.

Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote? Here Are Your Options

Create a new hotspot with the same name and password that your Firestick was previously connected to. After that, connect the Fire TV Stick to your TV and turn it on. It should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot you just created. Connect another smartphone to the same network.

Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote? Here Are Your Options

That’s it, your Fire TV Stick should automatically appear on your Fire TV remote through the hotspot you just created. However, you can change Wi-Fi right now if you plan to use the FireStick in a new location.

Go to Settings on the Fire TV Stick go to Networks select your Wi-Fi network enter your password.

3. Use previous generation Firestick remote control

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is backward compatible, which means you can just grab your old Fire TV Stick and use it as the default. The previous generation remote lacks a few buttons, so if you’re going to be using the previous generation remote on the 4K Firestick, you’ll be missing out on those buttons. Otherwise, it would work the same way.

Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote? Here Are Your Options

To pair the previous generation remote with the new FireStick, simply press and hold the Home, Back, and Left Arrow buttons simultaneously for ten seconds and then restart the FireStick. The new (technically older) remote will automatically pair after a reboot.

4. Use the TV remote control to control FireStick

Most smart TVs are equipped with HDMI-CEC, or a consumer electronics control system. Basically, it is an interface that allows you to control electronic devices connected to your TV via HDMI using the TV’s remote control. It’s an incredibly useful feature when you don’t want to use multiple remotes or lose one.

Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote? Here Are Your Options

Most TVs have this feature turned on by default, but just in case we’ll check before proceeding. Now every TV manufacturer labels this feature differently, so you may have to find out what it’s called. For example, LG calls it SimpLink, Philips calls it EasyLink, Hitachi calls it HDMI-CEC, Sony calls it Bravia Sync, etc. Look for the HDMI CEC setting in your TV settings and turn it on. Now you can simply use the arrow keys on your TV to navigate the Firestick. However, each TV manufacturer sets up the technology and implements it differently, so features may vary and some features may not work.

5. Use a keyboard or mouse with FireStick

You can use the Fire TV Stick with your smartphone, old remote, or Smart TV remote. You don’t need to use a keyboard or mouse to navigate the FireStick, unless you want to browse the web in a downloaded unpublished browser. The FireStick Remote doesn’t offer much when you’re using a web browser. You can connect an external mouse using Amazon’s micro USB hub.

Closing words

Here are some ways you can try losing your Fire TV Stick remote. The official app is the best solution if you lose your remote control at home. But it won’t work if you are away from home. You can easily change Wi-Fi by following the above methods and make the device work even without a remote control. Well, if none of the above methods work for you, then the only option left is to buy a replacement from Amazon for $ 29.

What do you think of these methods, if you have any tweaks, let me know in the comments below?

This problem can have many reasons. We’re going to list them all, so by the end of this article, you should be able to send messages through your iPhone. Let’s start.

7 Best Free Image Hosting Sites to Share Amazing Pictures 2021

Fix: iPhone not sending text messages

1. Force restart

This is perhaps the oldest trick in the book, but it could possibly solve a lot of problems for you. Well worth trying and just follow. Just hold the Power button and Home button at the same time for a few seconds. If you have an iPhone X series without a Home button, press the volume up button once, then do the same for the volume down button, and then press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the shutdown option suddenly appears on the display …

2. iMessage is disabled

It may have happened before. Messages you send via iMessage go through Apple’s servers. While Apple places a lot of emphasis on keeping them awake and working around the clock, every system can crash. To check if iMessage is down you need to check the system status here.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

This handy link will show not only the system status of iMessage, but almost all other services provided by Apple such as iTunes, Music, iCloud, Beats and others. I suggest you bookmark this link for future reference, especially if you are heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem.

3. Check your network settings

The iPhone messaging app depends on many third-party services to function properly. The first is a telecommunications signal. Do you have a strong enough signal to send a text message? If not, try moving to a stronger network. Make sure airplane mode is not enabled. In fact, some of our users reported that turning airplane mode on and off once helped fix the problem, so you can try that once. Log in to the control center to quickly check the status of airplane mode.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

Although text message depends on the cellular network to send SMS, you will need an active internet connection such as Wi-Fi or a data plan to send iMessage. Check your Wi-Fi connection and make sure it’s working, or disconnect for a moment to check if cellular data is working. This will help you narrow down the possible problems.

4. Check the block list

Perhaps you have accidentally or intentionally blocked the contact you are trying to send iMessage / SMS to and forgot about it. Sometimes people can be annoying, right?

To check if the recipient is on your blacklist, go to Settings General Messages Blocked. If you find the name or number of the recipient there, unblock him / her by clicking on the entry.

5. Update iPhone

It happened recently. Apple released an update and hell broke out when a user discovered a Facetime bug that allowed the caller to hear your audio while the phone was still ringing. Mistakes are common, and when the Cupertino giant discovers one, it sends an update.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

Updating your OS can also help fix a lot of bugs and issues in general, so it’s a good idea to check if there are pending updates and, if so, update your iPhone to the latest version as soon as possible. Maybe that’s why your iPhone was not sending messages.

6. Regular message

As mentioned earlier, iMessage uses the Internet to send and receive messages through Apple’s server. If that doesn’t work, you can try sending a plain text message using your cellular data plan. Please note that, unlike iMessage, these messages are not free and will vary depending on the carrier plan you choose, so be sure to check beforehand.

7. Recreate the group

Many of us use iMessage to send and receive group messages. This saves a lot of time and frustration. If you are unable to send group messages, I would recommend that you delete the group as well as delete any old conversations that you had with the group. Then recreate the group with the same recipients. Now try sending group messages again and see if that works.

8. iMessage & MMS setup

iMessage is nothing more than a form of MMS, so it’s possible that its setting has been turned off. To check this, go to Settings Messages and check if the iMessage option is enabled or not.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

While you’re there, also check if the Send as SMS option is enabled (when iMessage is not available). This way, your smartphone will be best at making calls and using SMS as a backup when iMessage is down. A regular message is indicated by a green bubble, and iMessage is indicated by a blue. Knowing the difference can help you figure out which settings should be changed first.

On the same screen, if you scroll a little, you’ll find MMS messages, which should also be enabled.

9. Reset iMessage

Some of our readers reported that resetting iMessage settings helped them bring intelligence into their lives. This will not delete your iMessages, but will reset the settings to their defaults. To do this, go back to Settings Messages Send and receive. You must sign in with your Apple ID here.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

Exit here, turn off iMessage on the previous screen, and restart your iPhone. Wait 10 minutes, then turn iMessage back on and sign in with your Apple ID. You should see your email addresses and mobile number here. See if your iPhone is sending messages now.

10. Reset network settings

As with iMessage, you can also reset your network settings. This will affect your cell tower data, Wi-Fi settings such as names and passwords, and even VPN details. You can always enter them back manually, so it doesn’t hurt to follow this step. Resetting your network settings can fix all sorts of network problems and is often recommended by Apple Support.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

To do this, go to Settings General Reset Reset Network Settings. Click Yes if you are asked to confirm your action. Your iPhone might restart quickly as well.

11. Date and time settings

Smartphones are smart devices, so you don’t have to worry about setting the date and time. Your mobile phone will automatically receive this data from your cellular network. Sometimes the smartphone may not receive this data, which can lead to the fact that your mobile phone will show the wrong date and time. This will affect many services, including iPhones, that do not send text messages.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

Make sure the date and time are correct, and if not, go to Settings General Date and Time. Make sure the time zone here is correctly set to automatic. You can turn off “Automatic” to set it manually if the date and time are not displayed correctly on your iPhone.

12. Update carrier settings

Your carrier’s settings may be out of date. In most cases, these settings are set automatically when the SIM card is first inserted. You can view these settings manually by going to Settings – General – About. Clicking on the operator’s name displays additional information, such as whether SMS / MMS settings are enabled.

iPhone Not Sending Text Messages? Here are 12 Ways to Fix It

If an update is available for carrier settings, you will see it on the same screen. If you want to manually update your carrier’s settings, there is no direct way, but there is a hack. Insert a new SIM card that is registered with a different carrier than the one you are currently using. You will be prompted to set new carrier settings, which will be sent via SMS. After the update, remove the SIM and reinsert the old SIM, forcing your iPhone to reinstall the original carrier settings again.

Messages are not sent on iPhone

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones.

Visiting a new city? Well, it’s always good to have offline maps of the city you are visiting. This has several advantages, for example:

  1. You do not need to spend money on data while roaming.
  2. Offline maps work even when there is no signal.
  3. They are much faster in response and save battery power.

There are many offline applications on the market now. Some specialize in route details and navigation, while others specialize in guidebooks. But the question is, how do I find the best application that suits my purpose.

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones

Trying out every offline map is not an option. They will ask you to download a few hundred MB of data before you can see what they look like.

To make things easier for you, I’ve tested four of the most popular offline map apps. In this post, you will learn the pros and cons of each app and compare the table.

Best offline maps

# 1 Google Map

Google map is good. But it * lacks full offline support . Only a small part of the city can be cached. Not an entire state or country.

Although you can always save more space by downloading them separately. But this will complicate the search process.

* Update:

A A few months ago, Google made a major update to its Maps app. You can now save a much larger area (up to 120,000 square kilometers). This is enough for a whole city or even a small state.

But still, this is not enough if you want to turn off an entire country.

To save your map offline, open the Google Map app find a place, say New Delhi at the bottom, tap the place name bar then tap the more icon download offline zone. If the area you selected is too large, you will have to enlarge the smaller area.

TL; DR;

Great map app. Streets are detailed and also allows you to see landmarks and save places for offline use. And in the new update, the capacity of offline maps has been increased.

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones

Download Google Maps | Android | iOS

# 2 Maps.me

Maps.me (formerly known as maps for me) is one of the most popular offline maps.

When you first open the app, you will see a map of the world. And when you zoom in, it will ask you to download an offline map of that country (or city, if available).

After that, you have all the maps offline. You can zoom in to see a detailed view of the street and attractions. You can also search the address and bookmark it for future reference. And all this without an internet connection.

Maps.me uses OpenStreetMap (or OSM for short). It’s like Wikipedia for maps: users can edit them, add new cities / roads, etc. on their own. However, I personally am not a fan of OSMs, they are not as detailed as Google maps, especially in developing countries.

However, I personally am not a fan of OSMs, they are not as detailed as Google maps, especially in developing countries.

Another thing missing is dedicated navigation (like step by step instructions). But it doesn’t really matter as it uses GPS.

TL; DR;

A good offline map, you can save an entire country or a large state. However, since it uses an open source database, the maps are only suitable for first world country.

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones

Download Maps.me | Android | iOS | BlackBerry

# 3 Triposo

Triposo is a versatile travel guide with good offline map support. You can select any city or country and download its offline guide. It also includes suggestions for attractions, nearby restaurants, nightclubs, etc.

This application works by scanning data from open source media like Wikipedia, Wikitravel, OpenStreetMaps, etc., and then structures the information in its application.

During testing, I downloaded offline maps of Mumbai (India). The offer was impressive, but the maps were not very detailed (OSM).

TL; DR;

In general, Triposo was created for people who visit a new city and do not know what to do there. It has support for offline maps, but that will only give you an overview.

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones

Download Triposo | Android | iOS

# 4 here

The lack of decent offline support on Google Maps has reassured other players. And maps here (formerly called Nokia maps) have filled that gap very well.

Unlike Google Maps, Here is specifically designed for offline use. You can download maps of the entire country or an individual state.

Complete offline map of India weighing about 1.5 GB. Maps.me and Triposo were only about 300MB in size. Needless to say, this makes the maps here more verbose.

Maps here also support voice navigation , as well as route planning, travel guide, points of interest, etc. In short, it’s a good combination of google maps and travel guide.

Comparing 4 best Offline Maps Apps for Smartphones

TL; DR;

HERE maps are the complete package. Like Google, they have their own map database that they developed from scratch (think Ovi Maps), and it’s extremely detailed. Sometimes even better than Google Maps.

And since this app is designed to be used fully offline, you get other important features like voice navigation too.

Conclusion

In this article, we compare the 4 best offline maps and here is the final verdict.

If detailed maps are your top priority and size is not an issue, go HERE. This is the best option when you are going on a big vacation.

If you want a travel guide with decent map support, choose Triposo or Maps.me.

Google Maps is handy when visiting an individual city and won’t bring much sightseeing.
