The Canadian dollar (symbol: $; code: CAD; French: Canadian dollar) is the currency of Canada. It is denoted by the dollar sign $ or sometimes CA$, Can$, or C$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. [Note 1] It is divided into 100 cents (¢). Because of the image of a common loon on the back, a dollar coin, and sometimes the currency itself is sometimes called a loonie by English-speaking Canadians, currency traders, and analysts.
